2012 Call for Papers

…for Poster Presentations at the APTAnj Spring Conference on Saturday, April 28, 2012 to be held at The Conference Center at Mercer in West Windsor, New Jersey.

NEW deadline for submission is Monday, February 13, 2012.

· The Research Committee will consider submissions to the research, special interest and theory categories. Abstracts may be submitted for poster presentations.

· Poster presentations are an important mechanism for the dissemination of new ideas and will be available for viewing on Saturday, April 28, 2012. At least one designated author should plan to attend the event and be available to discuss their poster, however you do not need to be a meeting registrant to participate in the hour-long poster presentation.

· Accepted posters must be in a freestanding, tri-fold format, which will be displayed on a tabletop. Maximum size is 36” high x 48” wide.

Submission Requirements

Format for Abstracts:

The abstract must be typed double-spaced on one page. Type should be 11 point or larger. The abstract must use standard abbreviations and should not contain subheadings, figures, tables of data, or information that would identify the authors or the institution. Margins for the BODY of the text must be 1” on all sides.

The identifying information must be single-spaced in the 1” top margin and include:

1) the title in all capitalized letters

2) the name(s) of the author(s) with the presenter’s name underlined

3) location where the work was done

4) the address of presenter enclosed in parentheses

5) acknowledgment of any financial support for the work being presented

In the lower left margin, type the APTA membership number of the presenter.

In the lower right margin, indicate whether the abstract is Research or Special Interest.

Specific Content Requirements

Research abstracts must include, in this order:

• Hypothesis or purpose of study

• Number and description of subjects

• Method and materials

• Type(s) of data analysis

• Numerical result(s) of statistical test(s) where appropriate

• Conclusion

• Application to physical therapy

Special interest abstracts on a new or unique program, idea, method, or device must include in logical order:

• Purpose of presentation

• Summary of experience or use

• Importance for physical therapy

Headings should be bolded and/or underlined. Reports of single-subject experimental designs qualify as research reports. All case reports qualify as special interest reports.

Selection

Research abstracts will be screened to ensure that they meet contact requirements and that the work has been completed. Special interest abstracts will be reviewed and selected on the basis of the specific content requirements. The designated author will be notified of a decision by March 1st. Schedule information and guidelines for presentation will be sent to the designated author.

Submission

Send two (2) documents; one version with identifying information and a second version without identifying information. Electronic submission is required. Submission must be in Microsoft Word or rich text format. File should be labeled using the presenting author’s last name. Electronic submissions will be acknowledged when received. Feedback will be given to all submissions.

Supplements and Natural Remedies for Women

Women have unique dietary and supplemental needs for physiologic function at different points in their lifespan. Participants in this course will have the opportunity to:

Identify what vitamin and mineral nutrients are available in the foods we eat. Identify how the availability of these vitamins and minerals in food can vary based upon how the food is processed and prepared.
Describe the benefits of nutritional supplements for achieving optimal health for women throughout the lifecycle: childhood, puberty, childbearing years, during pregnancy and lactation, perimenopausal and postmenopausal years, older years.
Identify factors that determine need for supplementation.
Learn about the role of supplements in special circumstances: PMS, menopause, stress.

About the Speaker
Dr. Nancy Cotter, MD, is the Medical Director of Atlantic Integrative Medicine at Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center. She serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at UMDNJ and as s preceptor for Medical Acupuncture for Physicians Program at Stanford University School of Medicine. In addition to her hospital appointments, Dr. Cotter has been co-author of many research papers on supplementation and Complimentary Medicine. She did a poster presentation at the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture Annual Meeting on “Acupuncture and Infertility: Review of Fifty Cases” in 2003. She also did a poster presentation on the “Effect of Stimulation Frequency on F-wave Parameters” at the American Academy of Electrodiagnostic Medicine Annual Meeting in 1994. Dr. Cotter’s has presented extensively across the nation on topics relating to Complimentary Medicine.Please enter event description...
