Consumer Guide to Physical Therapy

credentialing foreign-trained PTs

Physical therapists licensed or educated outside the United States, must have their credentials evaluated by an International Evaluation Committee. There are only 3 such services that the National APTA and the NJ State Board of Physical Therapy use to do these types of evaluations. A candidate is free to choose any one of the services. Their addresses are:

International Evaluation Research Foundation
Credentials Evaluations Service

PO Box 66940
Los Angeles, CA 90066

International Credentials of Delaware
109 Barksdale Professional Center
Newark, DE 19711

International Credentialling Association
1101 New Hampshire Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20037

After reviewing the credentials, the service will recommend whether or not to grant a certificate to the candidate. Once the certificate is granted, the candidate is then entitled to sit for the Board Certification exam. Candidates cannot sit for the exam without first receiving a certificate from one of these services.
